Heart-Shaped Box

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had a really good time reading this book. It was solid and in my opinion it hit all the beats without too much drag. I hear a lot of bad reviews about the character development on this one, but I really don’t see too much lag. From the beginning to the end we see Jude and Marybeth grow from dislikable scum bags to something with heart. I didn’t find this book to be a great masterpiece, and it didn’t have that “IT” factor, but it was very enjoyable. This was Joe Hill’s first novel, so I do give him props for making the book as good as it was. I read this book after I read NoS4A2, (Which is my favorite book by Hill.) and you can tell a world of improvement. I give Heart-Shaped Box a 4 star. Good Job.

LightningLightning by Dean Koontz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*NON SPOILER REVIEW*This was a very good book. I have heard that lightening was one of Koontz’s best and now I definitely agree with that assumption. This book kept me pretty much at the edge of my seat the whole way through. From page one, I never knew what I was going to get. Was Stephan an Angel? The devil In disguise? Well, I’ll let you figure that on out for yourselves 😉 The ending couldn’t have ended more perfectly. I was almost done with Koontz after reading From the Corner of His Eye, which had so much potential, until it came to the ending. Which was one of the crappiest, lamest, excuse for an ending that I have ever read. So much so that it put me on a Koontz hiatus for a while. But Lightening sure surprised me. I give it a 5 stars rating, not because its worthy of a Nobel Prize, or anything, but because get kept me entertained all the way through.

On Writing: A Memoir of the CraftOn Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Very informative on writing, life style as a writer, and a bit about Stephen King’s life and the process of the way he thinks. On Writing didn’t read like a text book I read with sincerity and honesty like a mentor guiding you instead of telling you this is wrong or write. I believe even a reader interested in Stephen King will enjoy this book with out having to be a writer themselves.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #1)Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow what a surprising little book! Although, I picked it off of the shelf for the spooky cover thinking I was going to get some kind of ghost story, it failed horribly in that area. But what I got was so much more. The characters were rich, and the emotions were realistic. It made me care about the protagonist and his journey. After finishing the last page, it left me wanting more; thank God this is going to be a trilogy. I’m giving this book a 4 out of 5 stars only because the cover was deceiving a tricked me into thinking it was something it was not. lol
